INSTANTHOUSE
INSTANTHOUSE SOCIAL CLUB 2011 An international line up on the winners’ podium for the third InstantHouse, the competition promoted by FederlegnoArredo, in collaboration with Milan Polytechnic. The prize ceremony will take place during the fourth MADE expo, the international trade fair dedicated to building and architecture scheduled from 5 to 8 October 2011 at Fiera Milano Rho. Students and post-grads from the faculties of architecture, engineering and industrial design took part in this third competition on the theme “Social Club”, with ideas and projects for the creation of “social” areas for the sharing of common services to help create interpersonal relationships, respecting the temporary nature of the Social Clubs and also the need for their rapid realisation and eco-sustainability. 113 projects were entered, 38 from abroad, and judged by the jury comprising Alessandro Balducci – Pro-Vice Chancellor at Milan Polytechnic, Andrea Cancellato – General Director of the Triennale in Milan, Remo Dorigati – Full Professor in the Department of Architecture and Planning at Milan Polytechnic, Franco Mori – Vice Director of Gruppo Costruttori in Legno Assolegno (Italian Association of primary processing and wood construction manufacturers), Anna Rossi – Infrastructure & Construction Department Landscape and Urban Planner Expo 2015, Gianni Rossoni – Councillor for Education, Training and Labour, Andrea Negri – President of MADE eventi srl. The overall winner was Fabrizio Fiscaletti, a graduate from the “Aldo Rossi” Faculty of Architecture at Bologna University.
The second prize went to Iris Hilton from the Italian Swiss University, Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio, who proposed a public building outlined by a large roof devised to attract and welcome.
An international team came third: Stefano Tropea, a graduate from IUAV in Venice, Thomas Dieben, TU DELFT University of Technology in Delft and Mikel Martinez, ETSA in Barcelona, selected for the originality of the relationship between the layout of the service elements in the green areas and the food production processes. Radically experimental, their building solution addresses a clearly public layout with coherence and finesse, thanks to large windows and meaningful use of light.
A special mention went to the all-Italian pool made up of Giulio Zani, Francesco Bonanomi, Giorgio Bosisio, Marco D'Angelo and Alberto Claudio Proserpio for their interesting entry which sees interrelation between water, landscape and architecture. Considering the large number of entries and the high quality of the projects, the Jury decided it was opportune to give special mentions to the use of recycled and eco-friendly materials and for strategic re-use of industrial waste material. The winning project will be built in the city of Milan thanks to contribution by the architects Gian Carlo Floridi and Massimiliano Spadoni, in agreement with the superintendency and Milan city Council, which will then decide how the structure will be used and the organisation to which it will be donated. The InstantHouse “Social Club” competition was made possible thanks to the contribution of the Lombardy Regional Authorities and Banca Popolare di Milano.
