FORUM ON STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING

Forum della Tecnica delle Costruzioni

DAYS FOR THE SHOWCASING AND THE IN-DEPTH STUDYNG
OF STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS AND MATERIALS

Technical innovation represents the element most capable of creating value and distinction.

The introduction of new technical standards amplifies this concept, because it enables the use of high-performance materials and systems, the development of more daring and modern solutions and the exploitation of more advanced technologies, thus giving rise to a new Structural Engineering.

MADE expo, the leading trade exhibition dedicated to building, the only one in Europe to represent the entire construction process, has chosen to dedicate the first FORUM on STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING to this fundamental element.

WHAT THE FORUM IS

Several days of events aimed at illustrating and exploring the solutions and materials for structural engineering.

Within the Forum, an exhibit on performance challenges will provide an opportunity to observe first hand and get to know the new technologies, new products and new systems; a packed program of conferences will allow participants to explore every topic and meet the authors of the main scientific-engineering texts; the project marketplace to purchase the research projects that leading Italian Universities place at the disposal of industry; the company exhibition spaces will offer a display of production excellence with various materials and systems. For the first time in Europe Structural Engineering will become a focus of analysis in a trade exhibition, a unique occasion for designers, project managers, contractors and clients to meet and transform a standard into a solution for re-launching and upgrading their activity.

The Forum will be staged with a high-level scientific direction: a scientific committee made up of engineering faculty professors from all over Italy with competences covering the entire field of Structural Engineering will assess the projects and products to be proposed for the exhibit and for the marketplace, define the conference program and organise the assembly.

  • “Structural Engineering” VISITOR ROUTE
The MADE expo portal will feature a route that will guide visitors inside the exhibition facility, making it easier for them to meet the exhibiting companies which operate in the structural engineering sector.

EXHIBITION OF THE “FORUM ON STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING”

The central feature of the Forum is an exhibition of companies that operate in the structural engineering sector

The exhibition of the Forum on Structural Engineering embraces all areas: the wide variety of materials, products and systems falling within the scope of engineering is reflected by the presence of exhibitors in different pavilions of the Milan exhibition centre, according to a layout designed to facilitate technical visits by specialised professionals and enable them to concretely pursue their quest for structural engineering solutions.

The exhibition is a meeting point for those who would like to get to know companies that produce:

  • traditional materials like steel, iron, concrete, bricks and wood
  • composite products and advanced constituents like carbon, steel and polymer fibre, additions and fillers, mortars and binders, traditional steel bracings
  • systems and components, such as seismic bearings, concrete and wood prefabricated structures, REP beams, inserts, pre-compression and post-tensioning
  • software for computing, dimensioning and verification.

ENGINEERING CONFERENCES

Technical innovation, Safety, Durability, Sustainability are some of the keywords that should imply a new regulatory and institutional approach for the upgrading of existing structures and construction of new ones. These are the themes forming the backdrop of the opening conference and the four important technical conferences of the Forum on Structural Engineering.

Wednesday 3 February 2010
Technical-economic conference
Technical innovation: driver of the building market
Technical conference
The performance challenge

Thursday 4 February 2010
Technical conference
Engineering for sustainability

Friday 5 February 2010
Technical conference
Fireproof construction

Saturday 6 February 2010
Technical conference
Intervention on existing buildings in a seismic zone

The Forum is not only this: associations, exhibiting companies and publishing houses can request the organisation to include their own conferences and meetings in the official programme in order to reach a specialised technical target.

STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING ASSEMBLY

The dramatic events of L’Aquila and the ability subsequently shown in managing the processes of reconstruction have highlighted the positive and active role that universities can play when an effective partnership with government is developed.

An example of efficiency is ReLUIS (Network of University Seismic Engineering Laboratories).

This positive experience serves as background for the meeting that will be held among representatives of government, industry and the academic community who operate in the field of structural engineering in order to reflect on the organisation and funding of Italian university engineering departments and research activity.

Thursday 4 February 2010, 2.30 p.m.
The following are invited to participate
Ministry of Education - Ministry of Economic Affairs
Ministry of Infrastructure
Higher Council of Public Works
Federcostruzioni (Federation of construction companies)
All full and associate professors and researchers from the structural engineering sector

RESEARCH PROJECT MARKETPLACE

It is both a virtual and real bridge for establishing contact between Universities and Industry on the subject of research projects, with the aim of disseminating the thematic competences of different university technology hubs to the world of Industry, informing about the funding opportunities for research projects and favouring the creation of research projects and/or consortiums between universities and companies. The research project marketplace will involve the publication, on the exhibition website, of information about the university technology hubs which propose projects and requests for the development of research projects. Moreover, prior to the event a communication will be sent to companies in the sector, including a presentation of the Marketplace and a list of the partnership proposals.
During the exhibition it will be possible to present the research projects within the framework of a defined programme.

The organisation of MADE expo 2010 will be happy to provide further information (tel. +39 051 6646624) and to present the Forum to companies and assist them in choosing a place within the exhibition.
