FORUM ON STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING

Forum della Tecnica delle Costruzioni

The innovative nature of technical and cultural developments characterising the 2010 edition of MADE expo acquires new content and sees a broadening of horizons.

Also thanks to collaboration with Federcostruzioni, the STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING FORUM provides designers, site engineers, companies, building sponsors, suppliers and institutions with an invaluable opportunity for exchanges of views and in-depth study directed toward transforming the innovations introduced by the marketplace, and constantly evolving technical regulations, into fresh opportunities for developments.

FOUR KEY TERMS TO DESCRIBE MODERN CONSTRUCTIONS

SUSTAINABILITY, COMFORT, FIRE-RESISTANCE, ANTI-SEISMIC SAFETY

Four key terms which have changed the techniques adopted for construction over recent years.

Sustainability, because all constructions must ‘consume’ limited quantities of energy (in terms both of the “environmental cost” of the materials used and the energy efficiency of constructions). Thermal, acoustic and aesthetic comfort or wellbeing, along modern lines, must also be ensured. It goes without saying that fire safety must also be factored in, as must seismic safety, where concrete risks obtain. Four key terms which have revolutionized the way we think of projects, the way we design, the way we build − also revolutionizing the entire chain of the construction sector, from software to materials, and from techniques to controls. The three operators who have been compelled to uncompromisingly take up this mission are building sponsors, designers and companies. They have also had to connect directly to innovation, and to do so at ‘very short notice’. MADE expo is where the connection takes place.

FOUR FIELDS, BECAUSE THERE IS NO SINGLE GENERAL PROBLEM

THE STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING FORUM IS A VENUE FOR SPECIALIZED INNOVATION

Within the world of construction, all needs are specific. Not general. Provisions regarding, for example, sustainability and comfort or wellbeing take on a number of meanings, changing the uses of the constructions to which these provisions apply. While MADE expo targets the entire construction sector, its focus is on specialization − and its aim is to provide concrete solutions. This is why FORUM 2011 will consider four major fields of interest: residential buildings, industrial construction, infrastructures, and large-scale projects and public buildings. Concrete exhibitions, project plans and technical meetings shall converge upon these four fields. MADE expo’s policy is to enable direct dealings between visitors and exhibitors and to facilitate the provision of solutions for specific needs. Our FORUM is an instrument for learning about innovation within the field of Structural Engineering.

RESEARCH IS THE BEDROCK OF INNOVATION

UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF THE SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE

Given the extraordinary achievements of 2010, the FORUM has called on the services of a highly esteemed Scientific Committee, whose technical qualifications and specialist know-how are of the first order. The role of the Committee is to provide MADE expo with back-up in seeking out the main new developments which are emerging and being finalized within the construction sector, while coordinating and organizing meetings, and bridge-building between academics and constructors, to provide visitors and exhibitors with ‘sneak previews’ of the ways research brings about the innovations of tomorrow. The 2011 edition shall activate links with the world of international research through the involvement of the most prestigious scientific journals, still little known outside the academic world.

THE FOUR AXES IN CONSTRUCTION: LOOK, TOUCH, SPEAK, LISTEN

EXHIBITIONS AND PROJECT PLANS

In 2011, too, the Scientific Committee shall select the most interesting technological innovations presented by the companies exhibiting at MADE expo, for the purposes of a concrete exhibition which shall be separated into four parts corresponding to the four themes of the FORUM. The exhibition shall provide visitors with an opportunity to see, and to touch, the technologies proposed, to speak with the people proposing these technologies, and to listen and learn about the technical indications provided. The exhibitions shall be accompanied by project plans dedicated to works both in Italy and abroad which have attracted attention as highly innovatory projects.

UPDATING − FUNDAMENTAL FOR KNOWLEDGE

MAJOR TECHNICAL MEETINGS FOR COMPARISONS OF VARIOUS TECHNOLOGIES

Meetings shall be organized for in-depth study of all four themes. These meetings shall be attended by some of the leading experts in their respective fields, the most representative industrial and cultural associations, and the most widely renowned technical journals. Each meeting shall be followed by a presentation, organized by MADE expo exhibitors, of the technical solutions available.

EVOLUTION OF AN INDISPENSABLE MEANS OF SUPPORT. ENCOUNTERING SOFTWARE

Over recent years, the techniques adopted for construction have evolved hand in hand with the development of software resources also dedicated to construction. The increasingly specialized nature of the needs arising in the field of design − and the proliferation of European, national and local regulations and rules − have generated the highly variegated range of products and services now on offer.

The 2011 FORUM sees its role as that of a guide for designers and companies within this area. The leading-edge software houses attending MADE expo shall therefore take their place among the speakers at the FORUM meetings, with a view to providing visitors with information enabling orientation, assessment and selection. Each meeting shall be accompanied by lists of the specific software resources available at MADE expo. For further study, a dedicated guide provides visitors with a useful aid in organizing their visits.

FOUR REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN US. BE A PROTAGONIST AT FORUM 2011

FORUM 2011 is a major project. It shall feature as an ongoing initiative covering the entire run-up to MADE expo 2011. The initiative shall then express all its potentials at the trade fair itself. If you confirm your intention, as of now, to take part as an exhibitor, you will also have a chance to take part in the MADE expo 2011 run-up events, and to constructively interact with the Scientific Committee with a view to seeing your products/solutions showcased at the exhibitions. You shall also be able to decide in good time how prominent your profile should be during the Forum meetings. Last but not least − here is an opportunity to make sure your company is a part of the most important European trade fair dedicated to construction. Four very good reasons for joining us!
