Milan’s first architecture week definitely ended on a high note, to the delight of MADE expo, a partner of Milano Arch Week. Throughout the seven-day event, internationally renowned architects and town planners came together to delve into matters that every modern city cares about, ranging from the redevelopment of suburban areas to the relationship between architecture and nature, and the massive challenge posed by reconstruction.

Milano Arch Week again proved how deeply and powerfully architecture can engage the hearts and minds of so many professionals, technical experts, enthusiasts and ordinary people enthralled by the design process: some 20 thousand people are estimated to have attended numerous events staged at the two official Arch Week venues: the Polytechnic University of Milan and La Triennale.

Stefano Boeri was the artistic director who so brilliantly pulled everything together. In January, Milan’s own architecture superstar appeared at a press conference announcing the 2017 edition of MADE expo, with a focus on: “Cities in transformation: retrofits and renovations”. WATCH THE INTERVIEW

Turning to earthquakes and reconstruction, Boeri emphasised the crucial role played by wood, a strong and sustainable material that should be driving the reconstruction of earth-quake damaged areas and also play a leading role in renovating Italy’s real estate assets.
